The Blue Elephant: I feel safe here...

The Story

This is the story of the blue elephant, and how it began its travels.

The bearded gentleman above is my good good friend Paul, who I met years ago in a popular coffee chain in a small town on the Jersey shore called Red Bank. Paul is a wonderful man - quiet and reserved, but passionate about his ideas and interests. He is a voracious reader, especially of Indian and Hindu literature. He has a close relationship with Ganesha, the god who is known for his elephant head and his ability to help you through, over, and around your obstacles. I really can't say enough good things about Paul.

I was visiting him some time ago, walking my familiar hometown streets at his side, when at our feet in the middle of the sidewalk sat this little plastic blue elephant, ostensibly the sort of which is placed on the end of a pencil. We were enchanted by him, and Paul, in his infinite gentle graciousness, allowed me to keep him. The little figurine sat on my bedside table and kept me company for some time, but upon my impending move, it seemed to me that it would be better to set him out into the world as he set out into mine - in the middle of it.

So I decided that the little blue elephant would be my wee companion as I travel and learn about this city and myself. He'll show up in pictures, sometimes obviously and sometimes not. Keep your eyes peeled, and come with us as we explore.
