So, I have quite a bit to cover in this entry.
First of all! I have successfully moved into my apartment and fallen COMPLETELY head over heels in love with both my roommates and this city. I am shocked it took me this long, but I as well as anyone else knows that life doesn't move at a necessarily understandable cadence and pace. It very much does its own thing. That said, I'm here and it is a good thing.
As ever, with so much to tell it is hard to know what to say, where to begin. I have been here a week and a half so far, and, as you might have noticed by my first line, I am without internet in my apartment. This has been frustrating, to be sure, and accounts for my lack of activity here. It also accounts for my lack of overall internet up-to-date-ness. I haven't even seen the new okGo video yet. Tsk tsk. But, this is being remedied even as we speak, for even as we speak I sit in my new favorite place, one Indian Road Cafe who, aside from possessing a great many prepossessing features, offers free, reliable, fast internet for their patrons. And patron I certainly am.
Moving to New York was an exciting event to be sure, but one of the more worrisome aspects of this move was, of course, the finding of a job. In the initial plans, the idea had been to move here, secure a rehire position with Starbucks, and settle in for a few more months of green aproned pain, suffering, and health insurance. Alas, however, due to complications of the sort that I *don't* necessarily need to elaborate on publicly here, I do not think this is going to come to pass. So the great hunt for a job began in earnest, and my first few days in this city were spent scattering my social security number all over the place, to anyone who would take it.
"Well, we're always accepting applications" quickly became the theme for NYC: Week 1.
I applied to three Barnes & Nobles, several different art supply stores, a handful of coffee shops. By the last application I started to unhinge a bit.
Describe some of your interests:
I'm a multifaceted person interested in a great many things, but they mostly include reading, writing, and art. I take part in as many cultural events as I can, and am always attempting to grow...oh, you know what, I'm so tired of this. I spend my time making paper cranes, letting people on the subway tell me their innermost feelings and problems, and taking pictures of a plastic blue elephant. Why do you even care about this? Are you even reading this anymore? Bugaloo squigglediggle bingaboozle. By the way, I have open availability and can start immediately.
However, there is hope. The aforementioned Indian Road Cafe has indicated an interest in possibly taking me on as a barista at their coffee bar, which would be AMAZING and lovely. I have to call them tomorrow, but I have now met the manager, who expressed an interest in hiring me. Cross your appendages, people.
Other than that, I've been hanging about with Sean, reconnecting with lovely lovely old friends, and making lots of paper cranes.
By the way, a quick word about the cranes. I'm making them for me, but I've taken to the idea of sending them out into the world and putting them to work. 5 cranes have already been sent into flight, and I'm looking to do more. So, to all 4 of you who read this blog, let me know your favorite colors or themes or whatever, send me an address, and you'll be getting one in the mail fairly soon. I'm going to make a facebook event for it, too, just to get the word out that much more irritatingly. Be on the lookout.
Other than that! I've been exploring the city, putting my unlimited metro card to good use and overall getting myself lost.
I've come across some neat places, of course. I found a really high quality Tibetan store, where I met and discussed Tibetan/Chinese politics with Noanck, the lovely owner. I also got myself a nice new set of mala there, rosewood. It feels good to have them on again. I've sampled delicious scones and tea at another new favorite place, called Alice's Teacup which I highly highly recommend if you are at all near any of their locations.
There is more, but this is a lengthy post, as promised/warned. I will be back here to this wonderful wonderful cafe soon, and I will update further, soon.
As a preview, though, this weekend I'll be seeing BOTH:
The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged at the New Victory Theater, performed by two of the three original cast!
AND!
Titus Andronicus, at the American Globe Theater, wherein I will see the ever amazing and wonderful Jon Hoche, and ALSO get to see the beautiful Natalie Doyle-Holmes, who I love love love.
Ok! Now I'm really done. =]

Woot! I'm one of the "4 who read"! I'd adore a crane. Details to come in an email...
I've been watching too. I'm amazed at how well you're doing and how adventurous you sound. Get in touch: we have a lot to talk about. My life took a turn very much like yours recently. Oh, and we should get together sometime soon to catch up. Oh, by the way, this would be the quondam-Spenser-teacher Mike...
